International Walk to School Day in First Addition
Wednesday October 2, 2002 the First Addition Neighborhood sponsored a Walk to School event for Forest Hills Elementary School. Lynn Peterson, Past Chair of First Addition Neighbors, and Mayor Judie Hammerstad lead a group of students and parents up E Avenue. At the School, they were joined by City Council members Jack Hoffman and Gay Graham leading children and parents who had walked from the direction of Boca Raton in Red Fox Hills.
Part of the event included adults taking notes on how “walkable” our community is for people of all ages. They documented information about how easy it was to cross the streets, driver behavior, and whether the walk was pleasant... The answers from this survey will guide the neighborhood and parents in developing recommendations for pedestrian improvements to the City. For more information about Walk to School Day, see www.walktoschool-usa.org.
